The algorithms are based on well-established signal compression techniques, and have been refined and enhanced to include several original innovations. XVD technology provides several unique features such as:

• Automatic scene-change detection

• Object motion detection/estimation

• CBR/VBR bit-rate control with configurable window sizes to improve video quality at
   dramatically lower data rates

XVD video technology supports HD and SD formats and all source resolutions from 96x64 pixels for very limited bandwidth applications such as cell phones, up to 1920x1080 pixels for HD encoding.

The XVD codec was designed to achieve optimal performance on modern general-purpose DSP platforms and is evolving to take advantage of increasing computing power available for real-time applications and products.

The current generation of XVD video compression technology provides better video quality at any given data rate than standards-based codecs (H.264 or VC-1) with four times lower encoding complexity (when compared with H.264 Main Profile).
